Shaun Robinson
Engineer, founder.
I spent the last ten years building an edtech platform I co-founded — game-based learning for 5 million students across 50,000 schools. Before that, a string of startups: two acquired, one that taught me everything by failing.
These days I build software at Starfish Engineering. Somewhere in between, I converted a cargo van into a rolling home and office, which is still the project I get asked about most.
Things I've made
- Legends of Learning
The edtech platform I co-founded and built for ten years. 5 million students, 50,000 schools, and a marketplace of 2,000+ curriculum-aligned games.
- EDF Chemical Map
An interactive map of chemical exposure risks across the US, built with the Environmental Defense Fund.
- Forest Queen Van
A Ford Transit I converted from an empty cargo van into a home and office on wheels, smart home automation included.
- Pixel Art Generator
A small toy: describe something, and Claude draws it as colorful pixel art.
Before that
- Contactually — CRM integrations, 2015–2016. Acquired by Compass.
- Main Street Genome — restaurant data, 2014–2015. Acquired by Dining Alliance.
- Squiid — my first startup, 2010–2015. The one that taught me what not to do.
- University of Maryland, ’09.
Elsewhere
- I was a guest on the Elixir Wizards podcast, talking about adopting Elixir and building a remote engineering team.
- LinkedIn and X, occasionally.
